Mohan House, Holbrook
Community Through Construction; Community Around A Table

For the spring project of the first year of the Architecture Part II Master's course, we were tasked with investigating the strategy of cohousing as a sustainable method of not only building houses but developing communities through architecture.

This scheme was developed around a grade II listed former convalescent home in the village of Holbrook, Derbyshire. Self-build housing as a drive for community and sustainable material usage led to a series of timber homes which divide the site into different ecological areas where the rural connection to nature can be celebrated. The whole scheme wraps around a banqueting hall extension to the existing building which has been adapted for its new use.
